A downloadable game for Windows

Moon War is a math-based roguelike with turn-based combat, where you play as an astronaut stranded on the Moon who uses magical mathematical cards and a machete to fight aliens from the mysterious "Undefined" species and survive another day.

How does it work?

During each attack, the enemy generates a set of slots and mathematical operators. Use the cards in your hand to create the best possible result while also satisfying the enemy's current condition.

But attacking isn't everything. You'll also have to solve equations during the defense phase, improve your deck in the shop, and collect Jokers capable of modifying your results in different ways.

  • Build mathematical equations using your cards.
  • Adapt to changing enemy conditions.
  • Solve equations to defend yourself.
  • Buy and replace cards between battles.
  • Collect Jokers with different conditions and effects.
  • Create stronger combinations as the difficulty increases.

About the project

Moon War was originally created by a group of friends and me as a school project.

The concept, artwork, music, characters, and overall creative direction were made by us. The pixel art was created using Pixel Studio, while the music was composed in LMMS.

Before starting Moon War, I already had some knowledge of C#, but I had never really used it for game development. I've been fascinated by videogames and how they are created since I was a kid, so this project became my first opportunity to actually turn that curiosity into a complete game.

During development, I used AI assistance and YouTube tutorials as learning tools, especially whenever I got stuck or needed to understand how a system could be implemented. As the game progressed, I learned much more about C# syntax, code structure, Unity components, ScriptableObjects, coroutines, UI systems, managers, debugging, and how different parts of a game communicate with each other.

I was responsible for putting the project together in Unity, integrating its different systems and bug testing it.

The AI assistance was used for programming and learning purposes; the artwork, music and creative ideas were completely made by us.

Moon War isn't a perfect game, but my friends and I had a lot of fun making and playing it, which is pretty funny considering that it's a game about mathematics.

We decided to publish it because we wanted other people to finally try something we created together.

Current version

Due to school responsibilities and time constraints, the player animations couldn't be completed for this first release. The game is fully playable, and I plan to add the missing animations in a future update. If you find any bugs, balance issues, problems, or simply have a suggestion that could make the game better, please feel free to let me know! I'll do my best to look into it and fix or improve things as soon as I can.

If you decide to give Moon War a try, I genuinely hope you have fun with it.

Thank you for playing! 🌙
